Pauline Johnson (TEKAHIONWAKE) 


A cousin of Major George W. Ford, Canadian poet, author, and public speaker Pauline Johnson—also known by her Mohawk name, Tekahionwake—was a celebrated literary figure of Mohawk and English descent. Gaining recognition in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, she was renowned for her poetry, which masterfully blended Indigenous and European themes, as well as for her captivating stage performances. Through her work, Johnson played a crucial role in raising awareness of Indigenous culture and identity in Canada.
